About The Exhibition

How I See Things by Christopher Jenkins offers a deeply personal and reflective exploration of Black life and culture through a variety of artistic mediums. Inspired by his hometown of Albany, GA, and the influences of both renowned artists and his father’s lifelong work in photography, Christopher’s creations illuminate the complexities of family, spirituality, love, and resilience. Each piece serves as a narrative, capturing the emotions and everyday experiences that shape Black identity, inviting viewers to engage with themes of heritage, community, and self-discovery.

About The Artist

Christopher Jenkins, age 39 is a 2nd Generation Photographer and self-taught artist. He was born and raised in Albany, Georgia. As a child, Christopher’s interest in creating was revealed very early in life. Ranging from creating his own comic strips to constructing a hang glider built completely from cardboard. Christopher graduated from Monroe Comprehensive High School in 2003 and went on to recieve a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from “The Unsinkable” Albany State University in 2015. Throughout the years Christoper’s love for creativity flourished into a career in craftsmanship and art where he discovered his love for creating art through various mediums such as cameras, canvas, and even some wood works. Christopher’s influences can be accredited to several sources such as his hometown Albany, GA, his love for Black People & Culture, as well as other prolific artist which he admires such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Pablo Picasso, Keith Haring and others. However, his father and professional photographer for 40 plus years, A.E. Jenkins Jr. is perhaps the most important influencer of Christopher’s art journey. Being able to see creative works from such a young age early on sparked a light in Christopher that he would not even realize was there himself until later down the road. Through his overall artistic concepts, Christopher seeks to highlight the daily lives, thoughts, and emotions that fuel black lives and culture. Family, spirituality, love, life, and death are all reoccurring themes that Christopher eludes to and touches on throughout his work.
