Artist’s Statement

What We Carry is a collection of moments, memories, and connections that bind my family together. Many of these works are inspired by ordinary scenes; hands working side by side, the quiet beauty of familiar places, or the small gestures of love and care that often go unnoticed.

What began as a meditation on labor and legacy grew into something far more personal; a reflection on what we pass down, protect, and share within a family. Each gesture and touch carries its own story of age, effort, and tenderness, yet together they weave a larger picture of trust, responsibility, and belonging.

This body of work is rooted in the rhythms of my own family life in South Georgia. These are the things and events that hold meaning for me, captured in paint like snapshots of our days. While deeply personal, I hope these images spark recognition in others, a reminder of their own people and places, and the many ways we all carry love, history, and home.
